The Elsmere and Kenton County Police departments are investigating after the discovery of human remains.
On Saturday, Elsmere Police responded to a wooded area near Palace Avenue and Spring Street after receiving a call that people in the area had discovered what they believed to be human remains.
The area was secured by Elsmere Police which requested the assistance of Kenton County Police’s Bureau of Investigations, a news release said.
Investigators accessed the scene from the backyard of a home on Palace Avenue, but police noted that there is no evidence linking the home to the remains, and that the homeowner is fully cooperating with the investigation. Police said that this home was simply the easiest means of accessing the body.
Investigators determined that the scene could not be effectively processed until daylight due to the heavy foliage and topography of the area. On Sunday morning, investigators began collecting and evaluating evidence, police said, in preparation of removing the body.
There were no details available about the identity of the person found. Police said that the gender of the person was not apparent due to the positioning of the body and decomposition.
The remains were to be transported to Frankfort for an autopsy at the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.
Kenton County Police detectives will be leading the investigation as they work to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
No further details were available. Anyone with information about the body is asked to call Kenton County Police at 859-356-3191.
