The Alexandria Police Department announced Monday morning that a wreck that occurred on Friday turned fatal over the weekend.
A van traveling southbound on US 27 near Constable Drive crossed over center and struck a tractor trailer head on. As a result, there was a large fire and diesel fuel spill.
The driver of the van was transported to UC Medical Center but unfortunately died on Saturday. His name has not yet been released.
A third driver was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured. The scene took ten hours to clear.
