The Pendleton County Board of Education named a new superintendent on Thursday.
The district selected Joe Buerkley to lead it.
Buerkley is currently an assistant superintendent at Campbell County Schools.
Current superintendent Anthony Strong announced his retirement earlier this year.
Buerkley is a 1997 graduate of Pendleton County High School. He was previously district executive director for student services at Pendleton County Schools.
The decision won praise from Campbell County Superintendent David Rust and others.
