Now for a tale that might sound a little, say, fishy- did you know that the McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich was created here in Cincinnati by franchise owner Lou Groen in 1962? After watching sales (sails?) of hamburgers drop precipitously on Fridays-Fridays, after all, were the day that Catholics did not eat meat (every Friday prior to Vatican II but only Fridays during Lent since then)- in the heavily-Catholic city of Cincinnati, Groen put his filet-o-fish up against Ray Kroc’s (founder of McDonalds) pineapple cheese sandwich.  Groen’s fish beat the competition.  So, as the city that invented the McDonalds fish sandwich, it is no surprise that the Greater Cincinnati area today still plays host to some of the best fish frys around- and Northern Kentucky might just be the best of the best.  For a list of the best fish frys in town, see below:
