The Campbell County Fiscal Court appointed a new Chief of Police on Wednesday.

Craig P. Sorrell has 22 years of experience with the Lexington Police Department where he is currently commander of the training academy. Chief Sorrell is also retired from the United States Army where he spent twenty years as a special agent in the criminal investigations unit.

“Craig Sorrell brings a wealth of experience to the police department upon which he can draw to strengthen the delivery of services to the community and enhance the professionalism of county officers,” Judge-Executive Steve Pendery said in a news release. “I’m really pleased to appoint him as the new chief of police and introduce him to county citizens and businesses. I am confident Craig will set high standards and bring innovations to address community needs and I am eager to work with him.”

Sorrell holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Eastern Kentucky University and was chosen from a pool of 31 applicants.

He begins his new job on January 5.
