The Florence Police Department has identified the officer that was injured late Tuesday morning after shooting and killing a suspect at a motel.
Lt. Roger Allen was one of the officers dispatched to the Super 8 Motel at 7928 Dream Street to investigate drug activity in progress. When Allen responded and proceeded to the room in question he made contact with three individuals inside and began an investigation.
One of the individuals in the room produced an automatic weapon and began to fire at Allen.
The 13-year veteran of the Florence Police Department was able to take cover and return fire.
The suspect that opened fire was pronounced dead at the scene. That suspect has not been identified pending notification of relatives.
A statement from the police department indicates that additional information will be made available when collected.
