Alison Lundergan Grimes now leads Mitch McConnell in the latest poll to emerge from their fierce battle to represent Kentucky in the United States Senate.

The Bluegrass Poll, a partnership between the Courier-Journal and WHAS-TV in Louisville and the Herald-Leader and WKYT-TV in Lexington, and produced by SurveyUSA, gives the Democratic Secretary of State a 46-44 lead over the Republican Senate Minority Leader.

That is still within the poll’s four-point margin of error, but a positive shift for Grimes who trailed McConnell by four points in the last Bluegrass Poll that ran in late August. An internal poll released by the Grimes campaign also showed the Democrat leading by two points.

The Courier-Journal reports:

Whereas the Aug. 28 poll, showing McConnell leading by 4 points, suggested he might be slowly pulling away from Grimes, “today, McConnell suddenly and unexpectedly looks wobbly,” said SurveyUSA.

The poll of likely voters gave 3% to Libertarian David Patterson while 7% reportedly remain undecided.
