In a game that was moved to 9am because of the heat, Covington Catholic cruised to their second straight win over visiting Dixie Heights on Saturday morning, 41-7, as part of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. Cov Cath used special teams to gain an early advantage with two straight punt return touchdowns in the first quarter and maintained control of the game for the rest of the way.
CCH was aided by some versatile performances from two of their key players. Quarterback Adam Wagner threw for two more touchdowns this week, giving him seven on the season. He also ran for a score. On defense, Wagner totaled 11 tackles and also recorded a sack. Wide receiver, Logan McDowell, returned a punt for a touchdown, caught a pass for a touchdown and later threw for a touchdown in the game.
Covington Catholic (2-0) has tallied 80 points and given up just 13 in only six quarters of play this season as their game last week was called at halftime with the Colonels ahead 39-6 over Boone County. They travel across the river next week to take on the Ohio Division I sate champions, Moeller, at 7pm on Friday night. Dixie hosts Beechwood.
The Bellevue Tigers faced Ohio’s Finneytown in another Showdown match-up and fell 27-20. The Tigers are now 0-2 on the season.
