For
many Fort Thomas residents, attending the Independence Day
Celebration & Antique Car Show is an important part of their
annual 4th of July festivities. The Fort Thomas Recreation
Department seems to outdo themselves every year, and this year is
certainly no exception.

Independence
Day in Fort Thomas is an all-day celebration, which kicks off with
the Firecracker 5K. The race begins at the Mess Hall with two start
times: 7:40am for the Free Kids Fun Run (one mile run for ages 12 and
under), and 8:15am for the Adults Race. You can find out more
information about the race and register here. The Tennis Tournament
will also begin bright and early at 8:00am at the Tower Park’s tennis
courts.

This
year’s parade route will once again have local participants traveling
from Highlands High School to Tower Park. The parade begins at
10:30am, but you’ll definitely want to arrive to the parade route
early if you want to secure a good spot (pro tip: remember that a
good spot of the parade route means more candy!). Fort Thomas Matters recently informed you that Chuck and Mary Lou Keller will serve as this year’s Grand Marshals, so be sure to wave as they pass by during
the parade.

After
the parade, you have plenty of time to grill up those hamburgers and
hot dogs before heading up to Tower Park to enjoy the rest of the
day. This year’s event will feature three bands throughout the day,
games, rides, and food. The headlining act is Blessid Union
of Souls, who you might know best from their string of radio hits
including “Hey Leonardo,” “I Believe,” “Light in Your
Eyes,” “I Wanna Be There,” and “Let Me Be the One.” The
celebration culminates in a firework show, which you definitely won’t
want to miss.
