Last year, Covington shop owner Jerod Theobald collaborated with Seattle-based company Ebbets Field Flannels to produce a pair of limited edition caps honoring the 1913 Covington Blue Sox baseball team. The team, which played its home games in a ballpark at 2nd and Scott, lasted just six weeks in Covington before being moved to Kansas City. The caps, however, didn’t last near as long in Theobald’s shop. Both sold out within a few weeks of their release.
“People have fallen in love with a team that hasn’t played a game in Covington in over a century,” said Theobald. “It’s still an amazing story after 100 years.”
After last fall’s cap sold out, Theobald says he received dozens of calls and e-mails asking about another release and decided to reach out to Ebbets Field Flannels for a third time. Just before Thanksgiving, Theobald finalized designs for a third cap as well as a limited edition jacket honoring the team’s home field, Federal Park.
“I wanted to create something Covingtonians would be proud of,” said Theobald of the jacket.
On Monday, flow – a shop for men will release the jackets as part of a special event as Cincinnati and other baseball towns across the country celebrate Opening Day. The event will run from 1-6p at flow – a shop for men at 621 Scott Boulevard in Covington.
