The FTPD is currently investigating a daytime burglary that occurred last Wednesday afternoon on Linden Ave. No one was home during the break-in, police say, and the burglar(s) made off with a collection of the victim’s jewelry.

FTPD could not speculate on whether or not this was an isolated incident, or if more burglary-attempts can be expected.

“With everything going on in the area with the heroin issue, we need to be extra cautious,” said FTPD Lt. Rich Whitford.

The FTPD investigated a string of daytime burglaries that swept Fort Thomas last summer. Police officials in Fort Thomas and other Northern Kentucky communities have linked increases in crimes like these to the area’s struggle with heroin addiction and trafficking.

Whitford also indicated that the FTPD has been running extra patrols in the days following the burglary.

The timing of Wednesday’s burglary and others like it pose a particular challenge to prevent, as it can be harder to determine whether or not an individual has criminal intent around a residence during daytime hours.

“We just ask if anyone sees anything suspicious in your area, please call us and we’ll come investigate right away,” Whitford said.

More to come as it develops, from FTM.
