The Northern Kentucky Police Memorial in Covington hosted its annual ceremony Wednesday evening. The event, usually held during the day, was moved to the evening this year to accommodate more families.
Departments from across Northern Kentucky were represented at the ceremony that included the traditional bagpipes, 21 gun salute, and the riderless horse. The Holmes Middle School choir performed the National Anthem and My Old Kentucky Home. Two boy scouts led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.
A member of the Florence Police Department, which was charged with conducting the gun salute, collapsed and was treated at the scene by emergency workers. He appeared to be OK.
Near the conclusion of the ceremony two helicopters performed a fly-over, which answered the questions posed to RCN about why two choppers were circling Covington.
