The Carnegie Center for Visual & Performing Arts will announce a new brand identity Thursday evening. Executive director Katie Brass will be joined by the Carnegie’s board president Ron Bates, and Scott Lucas, the executive director of Interbrand. Lucas’s firm is a global leader in brand consulting, according to a news release, and selected the Carnegie to receive pro bono brand strategy and identity services with the goal of unifying its three divisions: galleries, theatre, and education. Additionally, Interbrand will aim to refresh the identity of the center.
The announcement is scheduled for Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the Carnegie.
According to the news release, the Carnegie’s new brand position statement will be, “a place that transcends time and transforms the mind,” which Interbrand says captures the magical aspects of the Carnegie. It also reflects the center’s ability to encourage patrons to play, connect, and discover art in all its forms.Â
The new bright Carnegie identity features colors to represent the Carnegie Gallery, Theatre, and Education areas while weaving those colors together to form the new logo, which will be unveiled Thursday.
Showbiz Players announce “Carrie the Musical” to play at The Carnegie
Showbiz Players, the community theatre group that brought the hit “Avenue Q” to Covington last year have announced that “Carrie: the Musical” will play in September.
Carrie is notorious for its place in Broadway history as being one of the biggest flops of all-time, running for just five performances in 1988.
Since then, the show has been re-worked and played Off-Broadway last year. A news release from the Showbiz Players describes the show:
Â
Carrie White is a misfit. At school, she’s an outcast who’s bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she’s at the mercy of her loving but cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie’s just discovered she’s got a special power, and if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it…
Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, the musical of Carrie hasn’t been seen since its legendary 1988 Broadway production. Now, the show’s original authors have joined with director Stafford Arima (Altar Boyz) and MCC Theater for a newly reworked and fully re-imagined vision of this gripping tale. Set today, in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie features a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).
The production will be directed by Michael Shawn Starks.
Next May, Showbiz will produce Spamalot, the hit musical based on the Monty Python & The Holy Grail film.Â
Showbiz, which performed in Cincinnati for nearly two decades, became a resident performance group at the Carnegie last year. Its production of “Spring Awakening” opens at the end of May.
