Well, it’s not really Friday, but with Labor Day Monday, it kind of is.
– I went to Anita’s Mexican Restaurant last night and the review will henceforth be coming. But without giving too much away from my review, I’ll describe it in one word: Badass.
My spell-check is telling me that Badass isn’t a word, but I’m not going to edit it. It was really good and I can’t wait to go back. Also a small nugget: their margaritas have Frisch’s ice. I mean honestly, how awesome is that?
– In some national news that could translate to Fort Thomas, mega-investor Warren Buffett sold off his positions in his municipal bond holdings. As a former financial advisor, I know institutional investors create trends. Generally when they sell huge positions or buy huge positions, by the time the public gets wind of it, it’s hard to ride the wave.
By Buffett selling off his municipal bond holdings, he’s betting that the next “bubble” could be local governments not being able to service their debt – which includes their promises to pay bond holders who finance their public works projects.
The end result is local governments going bankrupt.
From all indications, Fort Thomas is in good shape. FTM has plans to scour our city’s budget but until then measures like preemptively letting go two city employees to streamline organizational flow are actions that will help our city stay solvent.
The common denominator in city’s future budget shortfalls seems to be pensions.
– Michael Monks, the editor for one of our brother blogs, The River City News, is launching his new and improved website for Covington news. RCNKY.com has moved out of its infant stages and moved to the big time. FTM and RCN are the type of news outlet that we believe news is moving to: “local, dedicated news now.” Congrats to Michael.
On that note, he’s allowed us to “borrow” one of his features, which will be apart of the “Van Damme It’s Friday” posts. “What Fort Thomas is Selling on Craigslist” will seek out the most outrageously good deal or outrageously ridiculous item on Craigslist for the week.
– What Fort Thomas is selling on Craigslist:
A Vintage Toliet. Without the tank lid.
Awesome.
– One of our wonderful site sponsors, Best Furniture Gallery, had the Grand Opening of their Design Loft this past week. If you haven’t made it to this hidden treasure, prepare to stay a while because it will take your breath away. Best Furniture is more than what you see when you drive by on S. Fort Thomas Ave.
Darrin and I were absolutely blown away by how much square footage they have. It’s gorgeous and you should absolutely go see it for yourself.
