The Northern Kentucky Rivermonsters had their first home game at the Bank of Kentucky Center on NKU’s campus Friday night.
The UIFL’s best scoring offense tallied a league high, 79 points, behind Jared Lorenzen’s season high 325 yards and 18 0f 27 attempts and 7 TDs.
I was one of the nearly 3,000 fans in attendance and I’ve gotta say, it was kind of awesome. We got in easy (parking was $5). Tickets were only $7 (up to $25), we walked right in to our seats had a few cold libations ($6) and bottomless popcorn ($5) and we were set.
The scoring is fast and frenzied and watching Jared Lorenzen work opposing defenses it about as entertaining as it gets. About the only thing more fun to watch are the TD celebrations, which there were plenty on Friday night. From group bobsledding on top of a boundary wall to a mock home run derby – this group gets it in ways the NFL never will.
Would have loved to see Brett Hamblen play, but he’s on the shelf with an injury. I’ll definitely go back.
Northern Kentucky improved to 3-1 on the season, and will return home on 7:30 p.m. March 28 against the Canton Cougars.
