The defending Frontier League champion Quebec Capitales (39-23) came to Florence rolling with 13 straight victories.
The Florence Y’alls (26-37) ended that streak at 14, but lost 2-of-3 in the series and now finds itself at the bottom of the West Division standings.
Quebec opened the series with a convincing 13-4 win on Tuesday, outhitting Florence 13-7. The Capitales scored five runs in the top of the fourth then exploded for seven in the top of the eighth to pull away.
Third baseman Brian Fuentes had the Y’alls lone multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs batted in and scored one run. Shortstop Ed Johnson added a double.
Starter Bobby Brabrand (2-7) pitched five innings taking the loss for the Y’alls, striking our four and walking two. Aaron Rund pitched two scoreless innings and Michael Kirian pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Y’alls came back and ended the Quebec winning streak in huge fashion with a 17-4 win Wednesday, pounding out 23 hits. Eight Y’alls had multi-hit games. Fuentes went 4-for-4 with two RBI and scored three runs and Johnson went 4-for-6 with a double, RBI and scored three runs.
First baseman Brennan Price, right fielder Harrison DiNicola and second baseman Jeremiah Burks had three hits each with left fielder Ray Zuberer, catcher Zade Richardson and center fielder Lane Hoover tallying two each. Price doubled and homered and Richardson added a home run. Zuberer and DiNicola added doubles.
Edgar Martinez (7-5) pitched five innings to earn the win for the Y’alls, striking out four and walking four. Carter Poiry pitched three innings of scoreless baseball, striking out two and walking three before Ben Terwilliger pitched the ninth, striking out one and walking one.
Florence had the chance to take the series Thursday, but came up short in a 6-5 loss. The Y’alls took a 4-2 lead scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth. They led 5-3 entering the top of the seventh. But the Capitales hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth off Brian McKenna (0-1) to make the final score.
Quebec outhit Florence 12-11 and scored one unearned run off the game’s lone error, which made the difference in the game. Price, Fuentes and DiNicola had two hits each with Fuentes belting two home runs for four RBIs. Left fielder Hank Ziesler added a double.
Jake McMahill pitched into the sixth for the Y’alls, striking out five and walking three. Kent Klyman and Terwilliger also made appearances.
Florence takes on Schaumburg (37-24) at home in a three-game series starting Friday at 7:03 p.m.
