The Florence Y’alls and Joliet Slammers tried to complete their three-game series Sunday despite the rain.
The game progressed to the bottom of the third with two out before the umpires called it off because of excessive rain. Florence (22-43) led Joliet (27-3), 4-1.
The game will restart when Joliet returns to Florence August 30 through Sept. 1.
First baseman Bryant Flete found himself at third base after a wild pitch with third baseman Ray Zuberer at the plate. Second baseman Ethan Stern scored on that same wild pitch.
Florence took advantage of Joliet pitcher Cam Aufderheide’s struggles. He walked five and hit two Y’alls with a pitch.
Florence had three hits off Aufderheide.
Designated hitter Brennan Price doubled, scoring center fielder Rodney Tennie after catcher Cooper Edwards scored when shortstop Alberti Chavez reached on a double play to put the Y’alls up 3-0. The Y’alls had taken the lead earlier at 1-0 when in the bottom of the first, Chavez tripled and scored after Price grounded out to first.
Bobby Brabrand started and pitched the first two innings for Florence retiring the side in order both innings. Billy Damon took over in the top of the third. After the first three Slammers reached, Edwards threw out Joliet center fielder Dave Matthews at second before Damon retired the next two Slammers to end the threat.
Florence has five days off for the All-Star Break. The Y’alls return to action at the New York Boulders (30-27) on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m. in Pomona, New York.
