The Florence Y’alls (17-25) have been in four one-run games out of five in this current road trip.

The Y’alls dropped two more on Friday and Saturday against the Schaumburg Boomers (21-21) in Frontier League West Division play. Florence is 13-15 in division play.

Florence dropped a 2-1 game Friday. Both teams had 31 at-bats and no errors. But Schaumburg had eight hits for a .258 batting average to six for a .194 clip. Center fielder Ray Zuberer went 2 for 3 with a double and scored the lone run for the Y’alls to lead the way. Shortstop Andres Rios singled in Zuberer in the top of the eighth to make the final score.

Jared Cheek (1-3) pitched another good game for Florence striking out seven and walking none. He pitched into the sixth inning before Cameron Pferrer took over. Karl Craigie and Darwin Ramos pitched the seventh and eighth respectively for Florence.

Schaumburg won the Saturday game, 8-7. Florence scored three unearned runs off two Boomer errors and yielded two on one error.

Schaumburg batted .364 (12 for 33) overall to .278 (10 for 36) for Florence. First baseman Brennan Price led the Y’alls going 3 for 4 with one run batted in and one run scored. Third baseman Bryant Flete went 2 for 5 with a solo home run in to lead off the game. Left fielder Axel Johnson also homered for Florence. Zuberer and infielder Harrison DiNicola added doubles.

Alex Wagner started for Florence pitching into the fourth inning before Kent Klyman (1-1) took over. Jake McMahill and Joe Dougherty also pitched.

Schaumburg led 5-2 after four innings. But Florence came back to take a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth when Johnson belted the two-run home run.

But the lead did not hold. Schaumburg scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to go back up 7-6. Zuberer doubled in catcher Cooper Edwards in the top of the ninth to make the final score.

Florence concludes the four-game series against the Boomers on Sunday and Monday. Both games start at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
