Fresh off their ASICS Challenge Championship in Chicago, Notre Dame earned the ranking as the top team in the state of Kentucky in the latest Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Poll.
The Pandas improved their record to 23-2 on their five-game trip to Illinois, the first time in program history coming back with the championship trophy. One of the victories was over Assumption, the previous No. 1 in the KVCA poll and the defending state champion. Notre Dame picked up 13 of the 21 first-place votes and will take their 14-game winning streak to Union on Wednesday to face Ryle, currently the No. 6 team in the state in the latest poll.
During the Pandas 14-game winning streak, they’ve dropped just two of 39 sets played. They are led in kills by Ava Tilden with 301, Ella Goetz with 58 blocks, Lizzy Larkins with 406 assists, Julia Grace with 395 digs and 35 aces.
Other northern Kentucky teams ranked in the latest poll were St. Henry No. 4, Ryle No. 6, Simon Kenton No. 18 and Beechwood No. 20.
St. Henry moved up a spot from No. 5 to No. 4, Ryle dropping two spots to No. 6. Simon Kenton stayed put at No. 18 while Beechwood jumped up two spots.
The KHSAA volleyball season begins on Oct. 21.
