Tuesday NKY HS round-up: Ryle volleyball wins ninth straight

The Ryle Raiders volleyball team has been on a tear lately with nine straight wins.

Host Ryle (18-9) took down Holy Cross, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-16) to keep the streak going and move to 7-0 in 9th Region play. Ryle had 33 kills, 36 digs and nine aces in the win. Alexis Woolf recorded 11 digs to move over 1,500 for her career. Kiana Dinn had nine kills and nine assists. Morgan Heater had nine assists and Abby Lester added seven kills with Karsyn Griffin tallying five aces.

Holy Cross (21-9) had 30 kills, 28 assists, 44 digs, four blocks and four aces. Julia Hunt had 23 kills, 17 digs and three blocks with Lucy Lenihan recording 16 assists and three aces. Olivia McHenry had 11 assists with Kyah Ryan contributing three kills and two blocks.

Holy Cross travels to Newport (5-19) on Thursday at 6 p.m. Ryle travels to St. Henry (23-8) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Volleyball

Cambpell County 3, Highlands 2 (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-9)

The Camels downed the county rival Bluebirds for the third time this season in a battle.

Campbell County (11-11) had 53 digs, 41 kills, 37 assists, seven aces and eight blocks. Lexi Scharold led Campbell County with 18 kills and six solo blocks. Ella Thorwarth had 21 digs and three aces with Emma Manser recording 15 kills. Hope Hamilton had 18 assists and Ava Crowl had 17.

Campbell County plays host to Scott (15-12) in a key 37th District battle on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Highlands (13-13) travels to Boone County (6-19) on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Bishop Brossart 2, Bellevue 0 (25-15, 25-14)

The Mustangs took care of the Tigers at home in a non-region battle.

Bishop Brossart (18-9) had 29 digs, 21 kills, 15 assists, six aces and one solo block. Kate Neltner led the Mustangs with nine kills to go with six digs and two aces and Payton Parker had five kills. Maddie Kremer had a team-high nine digs with Aubrey Rebholz and Nadia Shurley recording seven and six assists respectively and Jessica Keller had a team-high three aces.

Bishop Brossart plays Newport Central Catholic (11-18) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Bellevue (10-11) also plays again Thursday at Dayton (11-17) at 7 p.m.

Calvary Christian 2, Heritage Academy 0 (25-15, 25-16)

The Cougars handled the Eagles in a road non-region game.

Calvary (15-8) had 13 aces, 21 kills, 17 assists and 21 digs in the win. Savannah Ryan had 17 assists to lead the Cougars to go with four aces and Ella Mulling had nine digs with Alexis Hickey digging up seven balls to go with five aces. Reagan Brummett led the Cougars with nine kills.

Calvary plays at Scott (15-12) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Heritage Academy (3-17) plays host to Covington Latin (0-6) at the same time.

Area Games Cancelled

Lightning in the area forced the cancellation of some area games including Highlands (9-4-2) at Simon Kenton (9-7-2), Dixie Heights (6-9-1) at Conner (9-5-2) and Pendleton County (2-11-1) at Campbell County (8-7-1).
