Conner’s Natalie Elleman denied Cooper’s Kay Johnson a three-peat in Monday’s 9th Region girls tennis finals at Boone Woods Park.
In a three-set battle, Elleman took down Johnson, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 11-9.
Elleman entered as the No. 3 seed and defeated Notre Dame’s Lilliana Berling, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the semifinals. Elleman, Johnson, Berling and Beechwood’s Emma Ahlers all advance to the state tournament in singles later this month.
Ryle’s Avery Love and Niveditha Salvaraju were all able to pull off a three-peat in doubles, taking down Notre Dame’s Isabella McElweee and Malia Christiansen, 6-0, 6-0.
Love and Salvaraju’s dominance was on full display in the region tournament, dropping just five games in four matches. The two along with the Notre Dame pair of McElweee and Christiansen, Dixie Heights’ Cassidy Derry and Isabella Norvell and Conner’s Bethany Arnett and Aurora Sandfoss have all advanced to the state tournament later this month by each reaching the region semifinals.
The state tournament begins May 20 at Sayre High School in Lexington.

In the girls 10th Region singles final at Mason County, a pair of Scott teammates went up against each other as Beatrice Chiessi took down Kaylin Lovell, 6-3, 6-0. Those two along with Campbell County’s Isabella Jayasuriya and Bourbon County’s Aysha Garza advanced to the state tournament by reaching the semifinals.
Campbell County’s Izzy Hardin and Grace Heidelburg also advanced to the state tournament by reaching the semifinals.
