The Highlands Bluebirds softball team (17-5 overall) earned a huge win over the Western Hills Wolverines (16-7) from the 11th Region in the Lafayette Five-Star General Tournament.
Freshman Kaitlyn Dixon (7-1) pitched a complete game striking out six, walking none and allowing just three hits. The Bluebirds made just one error behind her.
The Bluebirds batted .320 (8 for 25) overall. Freshman catcher Payton Brown went 2 for 3 belting her third home run of the season in the bottom of the first. She scored the game’s other run in the bottom of the sixth when senior third baseman Carly Cramer singled her in. Seventh grade second baseman Layla Zepf went 2 for 2 with a double and junior first baseman Michelle Barth went 2 for 3.
Highlands plays Christian County (12-8) at 1 p.m. then Great Crossing (17-2) at 5 p.m. back at Lafayette on Saturday.

The Raiders (18-7) finished the week 4-0 with a 9th Region win at Holy Cross (9-16).
Ryle outhit Holy Cross, 14-8 allowing just one unearned run on four errors. The Indians had one error.
Junior infielder Xavier Owens led the Raiders going 3 for 4 with two runs batted in. Senior TJ Schira went 2 for 2 with a double, three RBI and scored two runs. Sophomore catcher Olli Morris went 2 for 4 with a double. Freshman second baseman Anthony Coppola added a triple.
Sophomore Lucas Sanders started the game striking out three and walking one. Junior Maverick Rabe (3-1) finished the game to earn the win striking out three.
Sophomore left fielder Noah Hisle led the Indians going 2 for 4 scoring one run. Sernior infielder Jared Davis added a double.
Sophomore Brady Neff pitched into the fifth for Holy Cross striking out two and walking one. Junior Austin Bailey (2-1) pitched one inning striking out one and sophomore Ben Issenmann finished the game striking out two and walking one.
Ryle plays host to Highlands (15-9) on Monday at 5 p.m. Holy Cross travels to Pendleton County on Saturday.
