The Highlands Bluebirds girls soccer team won its first of two big 9th Region games over the Cooper Jaguars, 3-0 at Tower Park.
Highlands outshot Cooper, 12-5. Goalkeepers Natalie Hinegardner and Bailey Markus made three and two saves, respectively, for the Bluebirds (12-2-1) and Allie Ames made seven for the Jaguars (7-5-2).
The three leading goal-scorers in Claire Cavacini, Laney Smith and Reese Wilkins hit the back of the net for the Bluebirds and Kate Jamie had an assist. Smith, Cavacini and Wilkins have 17, 16 and eight goals on the season, respectively.
Both teams play again Wednesday. Highlands plays at Dixie Heights (10-5) at 7:30 p.m. and Cooper plays at Ryle (6-8) at 7:45 p.m.
Beechwood 5, Scott 0
The Tigers dominated the home non-region match.
Allison Goodwin had two goals and one assist with Macy Yelton adding two goals for Beechwood (8-5-2). Ruby Fries had the other goal for the Tigers with Ellie Christofield, Riley Atmore and Katie Kocan recording one assist each. Goalkeeper Brooke Fowee had two saves.
Goalkeeper Savannah Black had 17 saves for the Eagles (7-6-3).
Beechwood plays at Bishop Brossart (10-5-1) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Scott plays at Holmes (5-7) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Pioneers kept rolling with the home non-region win.
Simon Kenton (22-5) had 32 kills, 32 assists, seven aces and 36 digs overall. Alisha Hawkins, Keira Hans and Jenna Kitchens had nine kills each. Madeline Johnson had four kills and three blocks with Kitchens recording two blocks. Sadie Rehkamp had 21 assists and Sarah Meyer had 10. Tori Chasteen had nine digs with Kaitlyn Hawkins digging up seven. CeCe Scalf had five digs and two aces with Alisha Hawkins and Gracie Meyer digging up two each.
Both teams play Campbell County (9-10) next. Boone County (6-18) goes there Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Boone County goes there Thursday at 7 p.m.
Scott 3, Newport Central Catholic 0 (25-19, 22-10, 25-21)
The Eagles took care of the Thoroughbreds in non-region play.
Scott (14-11) had eight aces, 25 kills, four solo blocks, eight assisted blocks, 21 assists and 40 digs. Milyn Minor had 11 kills, three blocks and two aces with Brooklyn Helm recording four kills and eight digs. Elise Manhardt had 19 digs and Ryann Grigsby 17 assists to go with two aces. Payton Grigsby added six digs with Morgan Justice blocking four balls and serving two aces. Brooke Balsley had five kills and Ryann Grigsby had five digs and two aces.
NewCath (7-14) had 21 kills, 20 assists, 63 digs, five blocks and one ace in the loss. Kori Reckers led the way with 12 digs, nine assists ad six kills. Jordyn Reckers had 17 digs with Piperlyn Kramer and Elise Fowler recording seven each and Paytin Reckers digging up six balls. Reese McCloskey, Katelyn Brannen, Elena Henderson and Lucy Simons had three kills each with Vivi Fassler tallying four assists.
Scott plays host to Bishop Brossart (17-7) in a key 37th District game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Bishop Brossart 2, Dayton 0 (25-18, 25-14)
The Mustangs won on the road in non-region play.
Brossart (17-7) had 18 kills, nine blocks, 16 assists, 39 digs and seven aces overall. Callie Ritter had a big game at the net with six blocks and four kills and Payton Parker added four kills. Maddie Kremer led Brossart with 15 digs and Aubrey Rebholz had a team-high 14 assists with Josie Reckner landing five aces.
Dayton (6-14) had 12 kills, 11 assists, 49 digs, four aces and one block. Haylee Reynolds led the Devils with 10 assists, 10 digs and two aces. Hailey Leger added nine digs.
Both teams play again Tuesday at 7 p.m. Brossart plays at Highlands (12-11) and Dayton plays host to Heritage Academy (2-11).
Calvary Christian 3, Lloyd Memorial 0
The Cougars earned the road non-region win.
Calvary (13-6) had 11 aces, 38 kills, 68 digs, 36 assists and two blocks. Savannah Ryan led the Cougars with four aces, 29 assists and 10 digs with Ella Mulling recording 34 digs and Alexis Hickey 11. Anna Hickey and Reagan Brummett led Calvary with 13 and 10 kills respectively.
The Cougars play at Grant County (11-9) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Lloyd Memorial (8-11) plays at NewCath (7-14) at 7:30 p.m.
