The Simon Kenton Pioneer boys soccer team downed St. Henry, 1-0 for its first win of the season Saturday.
Marco Barrios scored the game’s lone goal and Michael Cawthron had the assist. Owen Thoerner had two saves and Miles Mullen made one at goalkeeper for Simon Kenton.
Simon Kenton (1-1-1) plays at Oldham County (2-0-1) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. St. Henry (0-1) travels to Bishop Brossart (1-0-2) for a 7:30 p.m. game.
Saturday Boys Soccer
Bishop Brossart 4, Harrison County 0
The Mustangs (1-0-2) ventured to Cynthiana and came away with the 10th Region win over the Thorobreds (1-2).
Luke Alwell had two goals and one assist to lead the Mustangs, who outshot Harrison County, 12-3. Max Runge had one goal and one assist with Brennan Callahan scoring the other goal. Alex Runge and Luke D’Alessandro added assists. Michael Cooney recorded three saves in the shutout win at goalkeeper.
Bishop Brossart plays host to St. Henry (0-1) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Calvary Christian 4, Mason County 0
The Cougars (2-1) shut out the visiting Royals (2-1) to double their win total from last year.
“One thing that’s really unique about this year is we didn’t have anyone graduate so we have everyone back,” said Tanner Cox, Calvary head coach. “They’ve had a whole year to work together, so they’re really coming together and starting to play more as a team. These wins are big because it gives us more momentum going into the next game.”
Calvary Christian plays host to Holmes (1-1) on Monday at 5 p.m.
Scott 1, Pendleton County 0
The Eagles (1-1) evened their record with a 10th Region road win against the Wildcats (0-2-1).
Ethan Rogers scored the game’s lone goal and goalkeeper Aiden Taylor recorded six saves for the shutout.
Scott plays host to Cooper (0-1-1) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Dixie Heights shut out twice in Lexington
The Colonels (0-2-1) lost both games in the Fayette County Public Schools Showcase.
They lost 4-0 at Lafayette on Friday then 1-0 to Frederick Douglass on Saturday. Senior goalkeeper Brady Meyer had eight saves for the Colonels.
Dixie Heights had seven shot attempts Saturday, but could not score. Meyer had two saves.
Dixie Heights plays host to Campbell County (1-0-1) at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The Vikings (1-0-1) downed the Saints (0-3) for their first win of the season, outshooting the visitors, 24-2.
Tommy Wenning led the way with four goals. Vini Vieria, Ryan Timm, Carson Patrick, Jacob Thornberry, Drew Gray and Ivan Potapenko had one goal each.
Villa Madonna plays host to Calvary Christian (2-1) on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Frederick Douglass 3, Ryle 0
Ryle lost its first game of the year in the Fayette County Public Schools Soccer Showcase against the Broncos (1-0-1).
Ryle outshot Frederick Douglass, 15-8. Goalkeeper Landon Barth had six saves.
Saturday Girls Soccer
Simon Kenton 2, North Oldham 1
The Pioneers (3-0) finished the week with a road win over the Mustangs (0-2) in 8th Region action after a two-hour rain delay.
Reese Johnson had both goals for the Pioneers. Cam Ruble and Macie Bach had the assists. Fayth Tomlin had four saves at goalkeeper.
Simon Kenton travels to Grant County (1-0-1) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Bishop Brossart 5, Montgomery County 0
The Mustangs (2-1) shut out the Indians (1-1-1) in their first 10th Region game this year.
Abby Lloyd and Rachel Shewmaker had one goal and one assist each. Avery Schaeffer, Larah Callhan and Kennedy Parks had the other three goals with Kaitlyn Kramer, Kiersten Key and Zoey Woosley adding assists.
Brossart outshot Montgomery County, 15-2 on goal. Goalkeeper Madeline Broering saved both Indian shots for the Mustangs.
Brossart travels to Conner (2-0-1) on Monday for a 7:30 p.m.
Cooper 7, Anderson County 0
The Jaguars (1-2) finished the week with the first win of the season against the visiting Bearcats (2-1) after two tough home losses to Notre Dame and Simon Kenton.
“Playing teams like that, especially right out of the gate, when we are relying upon a lot of youth forces our girls have to realize how hard and how fast they’re going to have to play in order to compete, especially within the 9th Region and within our district,” said Scott Hughes, Cooper head coach. “One of the focuses was being able to positively transition up the field with much quicker pace, better movement off the ball. I thought they executed far better than what we have been able to.”
Maleah Alexander and McKayla Harsley had two goals and one assist each. Emily Green had one goal and two assists with Raegan Johnson and Mckenna Hughes scoring one goal each. Kamdyn Hamilton and Kathrynne Day had one assist each.
The Bearcats put up no shots on goal. Goalkeepers Allie Ames and Lea Race combined for the shutout.
Cooper plays host to Bryan Station (0-3) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Sacred Heart 4, Notre Dame 1
The host Pandas (2-1) lost to the Valkyries (1-0-1) in a battle of state powers in Park Hills.
Sacred Heart led 4-0 at halftime. Sadie Yapp broke the shutout with a goal in the second half.
Head coach Brian Woeste said Megan McGraw went down with an ankle sprain at practice Monday and it hurt Notre Dame’s counter attack defense. Hannah Renaker and Joelle Hentz had two saves each.
“I was proud of how we responded in the second half,” Woeste said. “We have to do better at recognizing their tactical advantages and adjust sooner. If we had done that in the first half, we have a chance to make a run at them in the second half.”
Notre Dame plays host to Lexington Catholic (1-0-1) on Monday at 7 p.m.
Lafayette 3, Dixie Heights 2
The Colonels (2-1) lost the final game of the Fayette County Soccer Spectacular against the Generals (2-0-1).
Abby Parsons had both Dixie Heights goals. Keeley Polk and Makenna Long had the assists. Maria Dilts and Karolyn Lighthall made the all-tournament team.
Dixie Heights plays host to Cooper (1-2) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Villa Madonna wins twice
The Vikings (2-0-1) won two home games on Friday and Saturday by 10-0 scores.
Macy Gumm led Villa Madonna with three goals. Ava Lynne Swartz and Catherine Gibbs had one goal and one assist each. Ella Burns, Megan Mahaney, Anna Riordan, Emma Gibbs and Rylie Bond had one goal each with Emma Tupman, Makena Lainhart and Lucy Vick recording one assist each.
Madeline McGuire and Lainhart both played goalkeeper. McGuire made the team’s lone save.
Villa Madonna knocked off Owen County on Saturday. Lainhart and McGuire combined for the shutout recording one save each.
Gumm scored four goals to go with an assist with Emma Gibbs scoring three. Tupman, Swartz and Sophie Cordonnie scored the other three. Riordan had two assists with Swartz, Burns and Vick adding one each.
Villa Madonna plays at Ludlow (2-0) on Monday at 6 p.m.

The Beechwood Tigers (2-0) won their second 9th Region game in as many tries, taking down Newport Central Catholic (0-4) at Morscher Park.
Rylie Kidman led the Tigers with one goal and one assist. Ruby Fries, Maddy Brauch, Ellie Christofield and Riley Atmore scored the other Beechwood goals with Macy Yelton and Allison Goodwin adding assists. Goalkeeper Brooke Fowee had six saves.
Jill Schneider and Morgan Wagner scored the first two goals of the season for NewCath. Schneider and Eva Greene added assists.
