Frederick Douglass 41, Highlands 20
Frederick Douglass scored 21 unanswered in the fourth to get payback from last year’s season opening loss to the Bluebirds.
Douglass ripped off 170 yards in the final frame while the Bluebirds had two costly fumbles in the critical quarter.
Highlands led 3-0 after one before Douglass jumped out to a 20-5 advantage. Colt Kremer’s 26-yard touchdown run followed by Bryce Armstrong’s 65-yard touchdown pass to Chase Jacob tied the game up at 20 with 9:33 left in the third.
The Bluebirds final six drives from there resulted in four punts and two turnovers.
Armstrong threw for 159 yards and kept a lot alive with his feet, rushing for 75 yards.

Bishop Brossart 30, Walton-Verona 22
Landon Spaulding threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 54 more as the Mustangs got the Jake Martin era started on the right note at the MAC.
Spaulding’s main target was Brady Boruske with eight catches for 159 yards and a touchdown. Quinten Tischner was the other receiving touchdown scorer with the Mustangs jumping out to a 21-0 first quarter lead.
The Bearcats answered with 22 unanswered for a 22-21 lead in the third. Ryan Eldridge’s 29-yard field goal gave Brossart the lead back at 24-22. Spaulding’s touchdown strike to Tischner sealed it.
Cooper 28, Christian County 21
The Jaguars fell into a 14-0 hole, but battled back to get a win in Michael Begley’s coaching debut for the program.
Cooper rallied to tie it up at 14 and scored on their opening drive out of the half for a 21-14 advantage. After Christian County, their first official game in program history tied it up at 21, the Jaguars game-winner came with 6:40 to go.
