See below from the Week 4 on the gridiron that was.

Each week, we’ll provide the standouts from Friday night. The top passers, rushers, receivers, defensive and kicking standouts.

We’ll also look at 10 things to take away from the week.

Here goes…

10 takeaways from Week 4

— After forcing four more turnovers in the 21-7 win over St. Henry, Bellevue’s defense has now forced 15 turnovers on the season.

— Boone County’s Malik Johnson is now up to 504 yards rushing on the season to go with six rushing touchdowns. He ran for 229 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Walton-Verona on Friday. The Rebels are off to a 3-1 start for the first time since 2011.

— Speaking of rushing standouts, unofficially we had Dayton’s Malachi Kennedy with 277 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the Greendevils 42-39 victory over Ludlow. If that number is accurate, it puts him at 828 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns through four games.

— After missing the first two games of the season, Campbell County’s Elijah Depperschmidt has 32 tackles in two games.

— Conner’s Grayson Montgomery has found his rhythm in the Cougars passing game. Over the last two weeks he’s thrown for 526 yards and nine touchdowns while completing 34-of-55 passes.

— Scott’s Trey Cook has thrown for 1,078 yards and 13 touchdowns in the Eagles three games. He’s hit on 54-of-his 75 passes and threw for 437 yards and six touchdowns in the win over Grant County last week. The Eagles are 2-1 for the first time since 2021.

— Covington Catholic grad Willie Rodriguez caught his first career collegiate touchdown pass in Kentucky’s 48-23 victory over Eastern Michigan. Rodriguez caught two passes for 28 yards and the touchdown. He’s caught five passes for 68 yards through three games on the season.

— Walton-Verona’s season certainly hasn’t lacked any drama. All three of their games have been decided by one score. They lost to Bishop Brossart and Boone County by eight and defeated Ludlow by five. After a game-winning touchdown against the Panthers the prior week, Boone County defeated them in overtime this past week.

— After Week 2, we praised Campbell County’s kickoff return team for three returned kicks for touchdowns. Now that attention shifts to Holy Cross, who have also now returned three kickoffs for touchdowns. Tommy Maddox opened a game for the second time this season with a kickoff return for a touchdown. He did it against Holmes on Friday and then again in the season opener against St. Henry. Max Hunt also has a kick return for a touchdown against Bracken County.

— Two really good matchups on tap Friday. Covington Catholic at Beechwood and Ryle at Highlands. In the fight for supremacy in NKY, it doesn’t get much better than these two matchups.
