Chase Flaherty’s monster night earned Beechwood a blowout victory over the Bobcats (6-6).

Flaherty ran for five touchdowns…in the first half as the Tigers were able to put up a running clock in the second round Class 2A victory. Flaherty would add a receiving touchdown for good measure in the second half as Beechwood led 56-21 with 3:31 left in the third. The six touchdowns notched Flaherty up to 63 in his career.

Adding a weapon, Tyler Fryman returned with a 50-yard touchdown reception, missing the majority of the season due to injury. Tigers quarterback Clay Hayden threw three touchdowns on the night.

Beechwood (11-1) hosts Martin County in the third round next week.

Russell 21, Lloyd Memorial 20

The Juggernauts jumped out to a 20-0 second quarter lead, but were unable to hang on in a Class 3A second round defeat to the Red Devils.

Kaleb Evans hit Isaiah Sebastian for two touchdown passes and Yurii Collins rushed for another as they jumped up 20-0 with 1:05 left before halftime.

Russell (9-3) stole the momentum from there starting with a score before the half to make it 20-7.

They scored out of the break to make it a one-possession game, Lloyd then fumbling to give it back. Kaiden Burge scored his second rushing touchdown of the game with 11:24 to go in the game, ending the scoring on the evening.

Lloyd’s season ends at 9-3, graduating a decorated senior class that won 29 games over the last three years.

The Thoroughbreds raced out to a 20-0 lead en route to the Class 1A second round playoff victory at Dixie Heights.

Cameron Mandel’s 75-yard touchdown run got Brossart within 20-7, but NewCath added two more scores before halftime to make it 35-7.

A missed PAT was the only thing that kept this one from a running clock in the early stages of the fourth quarter as NewCath led 41-7.

The Mustangs (9-3) 14 points were the first scored on NewCath in the team’s five games played all-time. NewCath had outscored Brossart 197-0 in the prior four meetings.

Newport Central Catholic (9-3) heads back to familiar territory, facing Campbellsville in next week’s region championship.
