Ludlow dedicated their home Mike Borchers Field in a big way on Friday night with a 61-8 win against Dayton.

Prior to kickoff, the Panthers held a formal dedication ceremony in honor of Borchers, the district’s former superintendent who retired earlier this year.

Panthers coach Woody McMillen was quick to note Borchers impact on the school.

“Mike Borchers has devoted his life, his heart and soul to the students, athlete and community of Ludlow, Kentucky,” McMillen said. “We were really glad to honor him by playing well on a night we named the field after him.”

Ludlow didn’t greet the visitors so graciously. The Panthers opened with 13 points in the first, Jackson Mays hauling in an 18-yard touchdown from Miller Reed. Keedon Moore then added a 76-yard touchdown run. The rout was on from there, a 27-point second quarter getting the game to a running clock.

A 71-yard run from Byron Conley, 34-yard run by Dameyn Anness and Reed hitting Mays for a 42-yard touchdown strike had the game on the edge of a running clock. Matthew Brock was able to get it there with a two-yard touchdown run with 3:58 left before half.

Ludlow kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter. Anness blazed to a 71-yard touchdown run four minutes into the quarter. Nearly four minutes later, Miller Reed returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown. The Panthers reached the 60’s in the fourth with a 23-yard touchdown run by Aiden Smith.

Connor Hurtt’s three-yard touchdown run with 3:33 to go kept the goose egg off the scoreboard for the Greendevils. Dayton was a bit undermanned in this one, 24 players on the roster listed as freshman or sophomores.
