Friday NKY HS round-up: Conner shuts out Scott to open district play

The Conner Cougars traveled east on Interstate 275 and came back with a 38-0 shutout win over the Scott Eagles to open Class 5A, District 6 action.

Quarterback Wyatt Hatfield led the Cougars (4-2) with three touchdown runs with Chase Bailey and Cordion Abernathy scoring the other two touchdowns. Andrew Herron made all five point-after touchdown kicks and a field goal.

Conner plays host to Cooper (4-2) in a rivalry game Friday at 7 p.m. Scott (1-4) takes on Boone County (1-4) in Florence at the same time.

Simon Kenton 43, Paul Laurence Dunbar 14

The Pioneers traversed south to Lexington and came back with their second straight win.

Simon Kenton (3-2) outgained Dunbar (1-5), 350-237 including a 254-53 advantage on the ground. Durell Turner rushed for 157 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown to lead the way. Tysin Weaver had one rushing touchdown and Brady Lee two. Lee also threw to touchdown passes to Nathan Kitchens.

Simon Kenton has its bye week before playing host to Great Crossing (1-5) on Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Harrison (Ohio) 33, Campbell County 7

The Camels dropped their fourth game in the last five on the road venturing across the Ohio River.

Harrison outgained Campbell County, 325-244 in total offense including a 183-152 advantage on the ground. Camel quarterback Nathan Smith completed 12-of-22 passes for 152 and rushed for 45 yards on nine carries and a touchdown. Garyn Jackson led the Camels (2-4) with four catches for 75 yards.

Smith’s touchdown run tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter. But Harrison scored 26 unanswered from there.

Campbell County has its bye week next week before traveling to Ryle (2-3) on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.

Covington Catholic 61, Holmes 0

The Colonels racked up 498 yards of offense on 21 plays in the rout of the Bulldogs for the district matchup between the two.

Evan Pitzer threw for 226 yards and four touchdowns on just eight pass attempts while 11 different Colonels got a carry in the run game. Charlie Ink, Mason Brandner, Dylan Gaiser, Noah Johnson and Ben McEvoy had rushing touchdowns.

Oliver Link, Braylon Miller, McEvoy and Donovan Bradshaw had receiving touchdowns.

CovCath (6-0) plays at Grant County next week. Holmes (0-6) hosts Mason County.
