Notre Dame 2, Evansville (Indiana) Memorial 0

The Pandas won their first game in the Zionsville (Indiana) Eagle Invitational taking down the two-time Indiana second-smallest Class 2A state champions Tigers, who finished 22-0-1 last year.

“Every time we come up here, you just know that you’re going to play elite teams in this tournament,” said Brian Woeste, Notre Dame head coach. “This is the best in Indiana, the best in Kentucky and some of the best from Ohio. You know you’re not coming up here for fun. You know it’s a business trip and you have to perform. If you don’t, you’re going to get blown out of the water. I thought our girls had great focus.”

Notre Dame (10-1) has won eight in a row. Cameron Kirtley scored both goals for the Pandas doubling her total to four on the year. Hannah Knapke and Eva Dozier had assists.

“We did well. I feel like we won most of the 50/50 balls,” said Riley Robertson, Notre Dame junior. “I think it made us not be under pressure in the back, settle down passing to feet and just passing it around.”

Notre Dame outshot Evansville Memorial, 16-6. Panda goalkeepers Hannah Renaker and Adilynn Melton combined for six saves.

Notre Dame takes on the Carmel (Indiana) Greyhounds at 3 p.m. back at Zionsville on Saturday.
