Delayed from Saturday because of rain and lightning in the area, the Simon Kenton Lady Pioneers and Grant County Lady Braves finished their 32nd District championship game at Walton-Verona on Sunday.

Grant County (16-12) finished off an 8-1 win over Simon Kenton (15-13). The Lady Braves have won the last two district tournament championships.

Simon Kenton batted just .192 (5 for 26) overall. Three errors led to four Grant County unearned runs.

Seventh grade right fielder Jayden Jones went 2 for 3 to lead the Lady Pioneers. Eighth grade first baseman Adreena Barton had a double.

Freshman Brianna Knochelman (13-7) struck out 10 hitters in four innings before sophomore Jaylie Vance pitched the last three innings. Vance struck out five.

Simon Kenton still moves on to the 8th Region Tournament at the University of Louisville. The Lady Pioneers will play Oldham County, Anderson County or Henry County.
