In what would be their last game of the season, Walton-Verona ran into a buzzsaw.

Playing perhaps the favorite to win the 8th Region title in the quarterfinals at Henry County High School Thursday evening, the Bearcats fell to North Oldham 84-38 in a game they never led.

Walton-Verona fell victim to a running clock early in the second half, with the largest margin coming in the fourth quarter at 80-31.

North Oldham had three players reach double figures, led by Pierre Rondo with 24 points, Colin Daniels with 11, and David Bradley with 10.

The Bearcats trailed 28-10 after one quarter and 52-22 at halftime. The Mustangs extended their lead to 74-30 after three, cruising the rest of the way.

North Oldham will face Woodford County in the region semifinals, while Walton-Verona’s season ends at 17-16.

The Bearcats will lose four seniors, including two starters, Cole Dryden and Deuce Shearer. Wyatt Shearer, who scored 10 points Thursday, returns along with junior starters Adam Gutman and Tatum Thornberry.
