The defending champs looked a lot like the soon-to-be champs.

Simon Kenton, the defending 8th Region champs, crushed Eminence 75-30 in the quarterfinals at Henry County.

From the opening tip, it wasn’t close.

The Lady Pioneers sank 12-of-20 from beyond the arc, forcing a running clock before halftime and stretching the lead to as many as 44 in the fourth quarter.

Nine players scored, with four reaching double figures, three by halftime. Brynli Pernell led with 16 points, Haylie Webb added 15, Angela Kabeya finished with 13 while Anna Kelch chipped in 10.

Simon Kenton led 28-7 after one and 52-17 at the half. The lead grew to 64-23 by the end of the third before an 11-7 fourth-quarter finish sent the Lady Pioneers to the semifinals for the third straight season.

They forced 23 turnovers from the Lady Warriors, who were led by Victoria Spiegl with 11 points.

Simon Kenton will face Spencer County in the semifinals Friday at 8 p.m. at Henry County.
