The Newport boys concluded the regular season holding off the Beechwood Tigers, 67-62 to win their 19th in a row.

Deshaun Jackson led the Wildcats with 19 points to go with nine rebounds. Griffin Starks and Taylen Kinney followed scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively and James Turner grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

Jack Sullivan gave the Tigers a big chance scoring 20 points and Carson Blackburn scored 14.

Top-seeded Newport (27-3) hosts either Dayton or Bellevue at 6 p.m. in the 36th District semifinals on Feb. 28.

Beechwood (14-14) hosts Highlands on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to close out the regular season before the 35th District tournament semifinals against Holy Cross on Feb. 28.

Boys Basketball

Cooper 57, Dixie Heights 49

Point guard Yamil Rondon made his return to the lineup helping Cooper to a 9th Region win.

Shaun Pouncy tore up the Colonels inside leading the Jaguars with 23 points. Jaidan Combs and Andy Johnson followed scoring 10 points each.

Max Rubemeyer and Hudson Blank led the Colonels scoring 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Cooper (19-8) hosts Scott on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Dixie Heights (16-12) travels to Boone County on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Simon Kenton 80, Highlands 66

The Pioneers beat the Bluebirds for the first time since 2019 pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Travis Krohman led Simon Kenton with 34 points and Bode Stone scored 21.

Simon Kenton (14-14) has won four in a row and six of seven as they look to continue to roll on Thursday when they host Owen County at 7:30 p.m.

Highlands (16-13) travels to Beechwood for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday to conclude the regular season.

Campbell County 69, St. Henry 63

The Camels won their seventh straight as they now shift their attention to the postseason.

Campbell County put three players in double figures in the win. Broc Sorgenfrei scored 18 points with Garyn Jackson and Connor Weinel scoring 16 and 11 points, respectively.

Caden Kunstek scored 18 points to lead St. Henry. Drew Flanagan, Brady Shea and Carson Shea followed with 16, 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Top-seeded Campbell County (21-6) takes on Calvary Christian on Monday at 6 p.m. at Campbell County Middle School in the 37th District semifinals.

St. Henry (10-16) travels to Holy Cross to conclude the regular season Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Newport won a third straight game behind 22 points from DeAyjah White. Who also grabbed her 1,000th career rebound in the victory.

Rayona Lindsey also had a big game making five 3-pointers on her way to 15 points for Newport.

Addy Garrett led Ludlow with 14 points and Ava Hoffmeister scored nine.

Newport (6-22) travels to Villa Madonna on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Ludlow (17-13) plays St. Henry in the 34th District semifinals on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
