Scott pulled off its biggest win of the season to date, opening the 4 Bank Winter Classic at Garrard County with an 80-59 win over the defending 12th Region champion Mercer County Titans.
Scott survived a huge 37-point game from Mercer County guard Anna Drakeford, but no one else scored more than nine points for the Titans.
“We shot the ball very well,” Scott assistant coach Jacob Parsons said. “We’ve been stressing more assists than turnovers during the games and we finally reached that point, but all-around we’ve been passing the ball really well.”
The Eagles put four players in double figures. Eighth graders Noelle Price and Nakiah Mejia led the way scoring 18 points each. Sisters Kourtney Peterson and Kaia Peterson followed with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
“I feel like I have to show out for my team and I want to do what’s best to put them in position to win,” Price said. “We played very well as a team getting them the ball when they were open.”
Scott (8-2) plays Estill County at 5:30 p.m. Friday back at Garrard County.
Girls Basketball
Cooper 59, Boyd County 50
The Jaguars won their eighth straight, taking care of another northeast Kentucky opponent in consecutive days.
Cooper won the rebounding battle, 31-20 and outscored Boyd County, 19-10 in second chance points. Haylee Noel and Logan Palmer led the Jaguars with eight each.
“The big focus is trying to get to the rim and get a rebound every time,” Noel said. “We all were very aggressive on the boards. It’s a focus every day in practice to make sure we push each other to go after the rebounds.”
Three Jaguars scored in double figures. Palmer led the way scoring 28 with Bella Deere and Liz Freihofer scoring 11 and 10, respectively.
Cooper (11-3) hosts Dixie Heights at 6 p.m. Friday.
Campbell County 54, Bryan Station 47 (OT)
The Camels outlasted the Defenders in the first game of the Giovanni’s Pizza Holiday Classic in Berea.
Faith Whitford led Campbell County with 14 points and Izzy Jayasuriya scored 13.
Campbell County (8-1) takes on Madison Southern back in Berea on Friday.
Newport Central Catholic 82, Ludlow 36
The Thoroughbreds dominated the Panthers in the first game of the Stephanie Wilson Memorial Tournament at Bellevue.
Caroline Eaglin finished 10 points above her average scoring 32 points to lead the Thoroughbreds. Madison McFarland and Jaylee Brannen followed with 17 and 10, respectively.
Ludlow had just one player score in double figures in Addy Garrett with 10.
Both teams return to Bellevue on Friday. Ludlow (5-6) takes on Beechwood at 1 p.m. and NewCath (5-3) takes on Lloyd Memorial at 5 p.m.
Christ Presbyterian Academy (Tennessee) 52, Notre Dame 32
The Pandas could not keep up with the hosts in the second day of the Zaxby’s Christmas Classic.
Kate Resing scored 11 points to lead the Pandas and Sophia Gibson scored nine.
Notre Dame (9-2) takes on Rockvale (Tennessee) at 12:30 p.m. Friday to conclude the tournament.
Highlands 81, Adair County 45
Maren Orme had a career-high 18 points as Highlands advanced in the consolation bracket in the Lady of the South Invitational at Allen County-Scottsville.
Orme, the eighth grader hit all five 3-pointers attempted. Eleven different Bluebirds scored in the victory as they jumped out to a 28-7 lead in the first quarter. Marissa Green added nine points and six rebounds, Saylor Macke and Isa Neufarth with eight points apiece.
Highlands (5-5) plays Metcalfe County on Friday at 2:15 p.m. back at Allen County-Scottsville. If they win that, they’ll play for fifth place on Saturday.
Bishop Brossart 59, Raceland 45
Rachel Shewmaker poured in 20 points as Brossart won their opener in the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic.
Greylee Kramer added 12 points, Zoee Meyers chipping in 10 as they face Nicholas County in the semifinals on Friday at 5:15 p.m., back at Raceland.

The Jaguars put up a battle against the defending 8th Region champions in the White, Greer and Maggard Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic, but came up short.
Yamil Rondon scored 21 points to lead Cooper and Shaun Pouncy scored 16 to go with 12 rebounds for a double-double. Jaidan Combs almost joined them in double figures scoring nine.
Free throws made a huge difference in this one. Woodford County made 20-of-28 and Cooper made just 8-of-18.

Travis Krohman led three Pioneeers in double figures as they won their opener in the Ashland Invitational Tournament.
Krohman had 19 points, Jay Bilton with 14 points and Bode Stone with 10 as they will face Danville Christian in the semifinals on Friday.
Simon Kenton (4-7) shot 52% from the field in the win. Friday’s contest is at 8:30 p.m. at Ashland.

Griffin Derry and Hudson Blank combined for 42 points as the Colonels advanced in the Henry County Invitational Tournament.
Derry had 22, Blank with 20 as they hit 16-of-23 shots from the field. The team shot 58% from the field and 50% from the 3-point line in the victory
The Colonels return to Henry County on Friday to face South Oldham in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m.

Hank Shick knocked down five 3-pointers as the Bluebirds got a win in Florida at the Innisfree Hotels Pensacola Beach Classic.
Brayden Moeves, Nathan Vinson and Lincoln Hicks followed with 12 points apiece as the team knocked down 11 three-pointers and hit 12-of-15 from the free throw line.

Luke Arlinghaus and Nate Rominger combined for 41 points as the Indians won their opener in the Railroad Classic at Estill County.
Arlinghaus had 21, knocking down four 3-pointers, Rominger with 20 points and 10 rebounds. William McElheney added 11 points. The Indians hit 20-of-25 from the free throw line.
