St. Henry rallied for a 50-46 victory over Grant County to open the season with a victory Monday night.

The Crusaders trailed 38-35 after three and 42-40 with 3:19 to play before ending the game on a 10-4 run.

Senior center Taylor Hill led the way making 6-of-9 shots from the field and hitting all six free throws on her way to 18 points. She added eight rebounds for a near-double-double. Kayla Unkraut added 10 points and Jayne Knollman made three three-pointers on her way to nine points. Unkraut and Knollman both hit key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter rally.

St. Henry shot 44 percent from the field and 5-of-10 from three. They knocked down 11-of-15 free throws. The Crusaders also grabbed 23 rebounds and dished out nine assists.

St. Henry plays at Holy Cross on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Basketball

Bishop Brossart 55, Harrison County 18

The Mustangs opened the season with a convincing 10th Region road win.

Rachel Shewmaker led Brossart with 15 points and Elly Clift scored 11. Kylie Smith and Greylee Kramer scored nine each.

Brossart snagged 27 rebounds, Ava Walters led the Mustangs there with eight rebounds.

Bishop Brossart plays host to Mason County on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The defending 9th Region champion Wildcats opened the season with a convincing 36th District seed win.

Taylen Kinney led Newport with 24 points, making 9-of-11 shots including all three 3-point attempts. Amontae Lowe followed with 12 points, Griffin Starks, Irvan Nichols and DeShaun Jackson scoring eight points each.

Newport hit 52% from the field, 5-of-15 from three and 6-of-7 free throw attempts. They added 43 rebounds, 21 assists, eight blocked shots, six turnovers and 10 steals. Starks added eight rebounds and three blocks.

Chad Nickell and Mason Johnson led Dayton with 14 points each. Dayton shot just 29% to go with with 24 rebounds, five assists, 13 turnovers and five steals.

Newport plays Richmond Heights (Ohio) in the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic on Friday at Mason at 7 p.m. Dayton faces Newport Central Catholic on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on the Hill.
