Thursday HS hoops roundup: Cooper girls take care of Simon Kenton on road

The Cooper Jaguars (19-3) handled the Simon Kenton Pioneers (12-11) by a 69-46 count on the road shooting 57 percent from the field including 53 percent from three-point range and making 13-of-15 free throws.

Senior 6-foot-2-inch forward Whitney Lind again led the Jaguars with 22 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Logan Palmer added 10 points.

Simon Kenton made 33 percent of its shots including 38 percent from three-point range and 60 percent of its free throws. Eighth grade guard Brynli Pernell led the Pioneers with 22 points with senior Emilee Eggleston scoring seven and grabbing nine rebounds.

Cooper plays host to Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Simon Kenton plays host to Spencer County at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Boys Basketball

Highlands 80, Ryle 69

The Highlands Bluebirds (19-6) downed the visiting Ryle Raiders (8-12) to move one win away from a fifth straight season of 20 or more victories.

Senior Will Herald had another big night for the Bluebirds making six three-pointers on his way to 26 points. Herald has made 321 three-pointers for his career. Junior Brayden Moeves followed with 13 as eight different Bluebirds scored.

Highlands hit 15 three-pointers and 11-of-12 free throws.

Ryle made nine three-pointers and 6-of-11 free throws. Juniors Logan Verax and Grady Reynolds led the way scoring 20 and 19, respectively.

Highlands plays host to Bellevue on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Ryle plays host to Newport Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
