The Walton-Verona Bearcats boys basketball team (15-7 overall) downed the Cooper Jagurs (12-10), 72-64 in non-region action.

Sophomore Aaron Gutman led the Bearcats with 26 points and junior Julian Dixon scored 19. Senior Carter Krohman followed with nine.

Sophomore point guard Yamil Rondon led the Jaguars with 23 points and sophomore guard Andy Johnson had 16 points. Senior Trevor Ollier scored 13.

Walton-Verona plays at Mason County (22-2) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Cooper does not play again until Feb. 9 at Newport at 7:30 p.m.

The Jaguars (17-3) saw their 15-game winning streak snapped against the Crimsons (21-2) in the semifinals of the Louisville Invitational Tournament.

Cooper led Manual, 37-34 after three quarters. But the Crimsons won the fourth quarter, 19-5.

Senior 6-foot-2-inch forward Whitney Lind led Cooper with a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. No one else scored in double-digits for the Jaguars.

Cooper plays at Highlands (16-7) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
