Days before Christmas, Walton-Verona senior Grace Brewer put up a huge double-double with 21 points and 20 rebounds helping the Bearcats girls basketball team (5-5) to a 54-47 home win over the Scott County Cardinals.

Brewer came into the game averaging 17.1 points per game. Senior point guard McKaila Hatton added 11 points for Walton-Verona.

Walton-Verona travels to Anderson County (8-0) to open the Century Bank Holiday Classic on Dec. 28 at 6 p.m.

Ryle 71, Bullitt East 64

The Raiders (8-3) hit 22-of-26 free throws on their way to finishing third in the Queen of the Commonwealth with the win over the host Chargers (8-2).

Ryle employed balanced scoring in the win. Senior guard Abby Holtman scored 23 points making 7-of-8 free throws with senior guard Austin Johnson scoring 16. Junior forward Quinn Eubank scored 15 and junior center Sarah Baker scored 11.

Ryle plays twice on Dec. 28 taking on McCracken County at 11 a.m. then Franklin-Simpson at 5 p.m.

Holy Cross 53, Meade County 50

The Indians (9-3) finished the Queen of the Commonwealth Tournament with a huge win over the defending 3rd Region champion Waves (7-4), taking fifth place. Junior post Julia Hunt led Holy Cross with 23 points.

Holy Cross travels to Cincinnati (Ohio) Seton on Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Dixie Heights 64, Lafayette 57

Senior Sammy Berman made 10 of 11 free throws on her way to 24 points and nine rebounds in the Dixie Heights (8-3) win. Senior Ella Steczynski added 11 points.

Dixie Heights does not play again until Jan. 4 at home against Notre Dame (8-1) at 7 p.m.

Conner 68, Perry County Central 52

The Cougars (6-4) have won three in a row. Junior point guard Anna Hamilton scored 19 points and senior forward Juliet Strange scored 17. Senior guard Kelsee Simpson had nine points and nine rebounds.

Conner takes on Kettering (Ohio) Alter at 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 29.

The Eagles (8-3) snapped a two-game losing streak at the Berea Holiday Classic.

Trent Stone and Cade Holtman led the way with 21 and 20 points, respectively, Holtman draining four 3-pointers. Elisha Schultz chipped in 14 while Cameron Baker added eight and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Heritage Academy gets a little break, back in action on January 5 when they play at Ludlow.

Ryle 85, Bellevue 30

Ryle (3-5) snapped a three-game losing streak with a comfortable win over Bellevue on Thursday at the Swauger Holiday Classic.

Logan Verax scored 16 points, Logan Lorms adding 13 as the final day of the Swauger was canceled due to the inclement weather.

Ryle hosts Milford (OH) on December 29 the next time they hit the court.

Newport 69, Newport Central Catholic 52

Newport won their sixth straight game as they hit 55 percent from the field in their 17-point victory over the Thoroughbreds.

The Wildcats had four players hit double figures led by Marquez Miller with 21 points. Jabari Covington chipped in 19, Taylen Kinney 11 and James Turner a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while DaShawn Anderson added eight.

Newport Central Catholic (6-5) was outrebounded 33-18 in the contest. Jase Iles led the Thoroughbreds with 18 points, Caleb Eaglin adding 11.

Newport heads to Corbin to play in the Grace Health Cumberland Falls Invitational opening up with Bell County while Newport Central Catholic heads to Williamsburg to play in the Bill Perkins Holiday Classic, opening up with Lee County on December 28.
