The Ryle Raiders girls basketball team (7-2) advanced to the semifinals of the Queen of the Commonwealth Tournament at Bullitt East with an impressive 64-45 win over the defending 3rd Region champion Meade County Wave (7-2). Meade County made it to the state quarterfinals last year losing to eventual state runner-up Bullitt East.
Ryle received its usual balanced scoring in the win. Senior guard Abby Holtman led the way with 17 points and junior forward Quinn Eubank scored 16. Senior guard Austin Johnson scored 15 points with junior center Sarah Baker adding 10.

Ryle takes on defending 4th Region champion Bowling Green (7-1) at 7:15 p.m. back at Bullitt East on Wednesday. The winner heads to Thursday’s championship at noon. The schedule was altered for Thursday to ensure each school gets home in a timely manner in anticipation for Thursday evening’s winter weather forecasted.
George Rogers Clark 54, Notre Dame 42
The Pandas (8-1) lost their first game of the season in the championship of the White, Greer and Maggard Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic Tuesday night.
Neither team shot it well as the two played their fourth game in four days, Notre Dame 13-of-40, GRC 13-of-34, but the difference was at the free throw line, the Cardinals (7-1) knocking down 24-of-32 from the charity stripe, the Pandas 12-of-15.
Notre Dame was paced by Noelle Hubert with 15 points, Sophia Gibson adding 10.

The Byars’ sisters did a lot of damage for GRC, Ciara Byars with 21 points and six rebounds, Brianna Byars 12 points and five rebounds. Trinity Gay chipped in 14 points.
Notre Dame now has a 10-day break, not returning to action on December 30 when they play at Holmes.
