The Dixie Heights girls basketball team (6-2) rolled to another convincing win, 62-37 at home over Newport Central Catholic (4-3).

Dixie Heights hit 27-of-56 shots for 48 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line to go with 34 rebounds. Senior guard Sammy Berman led the Colonels with 15 points to go with eight steals and six rebounds and senior guard Ella Steczynski had 14 points to go with eight steals.

The Colonels once again displayed offensive balance. Junior forward Abby Thelen and freshmen guards Coralee Pelfrey and Aubrey Elkins scored eight points each. Thelen also had six rebounds.

NewCath made just 28 percent of its shots and 83 percent of its free throws to go with 21 rebounds. Sophomore guard Caroline Eaglin led the Colonels with 16 points and sophomore forward Katelyn Brannen had a team-high nine rebounds.

Both teams play again Saturday. Dixie Heights travels to Louisville to take on the two-time defending state champion Sacred Heart (6-0) at 3:30 p.m., and NewCath plays host to Grant County (4-2) at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Basketball

Simon Kenton 60, Lloyd Memorial 25

The Pioneers (5-2) downed the Juggernauts hitting nearly 40 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range to go with 42 rebounds.

Senior forward Emilee Eggleston led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard/forward Anna Kelch and sophomore guard Rylie Flynn followed with 12 points and nine points, respectively.

Simon Kenton travels to Walton-Verona (3-4) for a key 32nd District seed game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Lloyd Memorial plays host to Grant County (4-2) at the same time.

Boys Basketball Scores

Ludlow 76, Dayton 41

The Panthers (5-2) won their fourth straight game, cruising to victory over Dayton (1-6).

Ludlow was led by Jaxson Rice with 26 points and eight rebounds, knocking down four 3-pointers. Spencer Brandenburg followed suit with 15 points, hitting 60 percent of his shots from the field. Elijah Perrin and Ethan Powell chipped in nine and eight points, respectively. The Panthers were hot from deep, knocking down 12-of-23 from the 3-point line.

Ludlow will look to make it five in a row when they host Holmes Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Dayton plays in the Louisville Christmas Classic over the weekend at Highlands Latin.

Heritage Academy 76, Bellevue 35

The Eagles improved to 6-1 in a comfortable victory over Bellevue on Thursday night, winning their fourth straight in doing so.

Heritage Academy shot 51 percent from the field and knocked down 10 three-pointers as six players scored at least eight points in the contest. They were led by Elisha Schulz with 16, Landon Warner 15, Cade Holtoman 13, Tyler Warner 12, Trent Stone nine and Cameron Baker with eight. Schulz adding nine rebounds, Landon Warner with seven.

Bellevue (3-2) dropped their second straight contest after a 3-0 start, led by Jackson Fornash in the scoring column with 10 points. Noah Frommeyer added nine, Aiden Dickerson with seven. The Tigers struggled from the field, shooting 33 percent and 2-of-17 from 3-point land.

Heritage Academy travels to Louisville on Friday to take on Highlands Latin in the Louisville Christmas Classic at 7:30 p.m. while Bellevue hosts Anderson County at 8 p.m.
