Holmes Boys Basketball Head Coach Brad Carr (middle) has confirmed his resignation after four seasons guiding the Bulldogs. Holmes finished 11-17 last year and 35-53 during those four seasons. The Bulldogs have not been to the 9th Region Tournament since 2015.

Brad Carr has confirmed he resigned as head coach of the Holmes Bulldogs boys basketball program.

The Bulldogs have a proud history including a state championship in 2009. Carr, a 1987 Holmes graduate, tried to restore that tradition in his four seasons. But the Bulldogs finished 35-53 overall with their best two seasons coming at 11-17 this past year and during the 2019-2020 season.

Holmes could not win in the 35th District semifinals to make it back to the 9th Region Tournament during Carr’s tenure. The Bulldogs have six straight losing seasons and have not been back to the region tournament since 2015 when guard James “Beetle” Bolden was a senior.

The Bulldogs had one of the state of Kentucky’s highest scorers in senior Quantez Calloway at 29.8 points per game. But no one else averaged in double figures.

Carr is an assistant principal at Holmes Middle School. He served as an assistant at Holmes and Simon Kenton before become head coach of the Scott Eagles boys basketball team from 2004 to 2016. In those 12 seasons, Scott finished 187-174 and made the 10th Region Tournament 10 times. Scott finished region runner-up in 2013 and 2015.

The Ryle Raiders are also looking for both a Director of Athletics and a new head boys basketball coach after Keaton Belcher resigned from both. In three seasons, Ryle finished 34-50 under Belcher’s guidance. The Raiders made it to the 9th Region championship in 2021 losing to eventual state champion Highlands in the region quarterfinals.

Two schools in Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties are looking for girls head coaches. They are Bishop Brossart and Simon Kenton.

Jeffrey Stowers resigned after 20 years guiding the Lady Pioneers basketball team. Simon Kenton finished 427-180 during that time winning five 8th Region titles. The 2008, 2009 and 2017 teams made it to the state quarterfinals before losing.

Garren Parker stepped down after one season guiding the Lady ‘Stangs. They finished 20-11 winning the 37th District Tournament then driving to the 10th Region semifinals before losing to eventual state quarterfinalist George Rogers Clark. Parker cited family obligations and work constraints as the reason for his decision.
