The Simon Kenton Lady Pioneers (17-13) put up a good fight against the team ranked 8th in the latest Associated Press poll.
Simon Kenton led the Anderson County Lady Bearcats (28-4), 29-19 after the first quarter. But the Lady Pioneers could not keep the lead in a 77-67 loss at Grant County in the 8th Region Quarterfinals.
The Lady Pioneers could not slow down a Miss Kentucky Basketball Candidate in Anderson County senior guard Amiya Jenkins. Jenkins finished with 38 points.
Simon Kenton senior center Sereniti Webb finished with 27 points. Junior forward Emilee Eggleston scored 22.
This marked the final game of the outstanding career for Simon Kenton Head Coach Jeffrey Stowers. In his 20 seasons in Independence, Simon Kenton compiled 427 victories and 180 defeats under his guidance. The Lady Pioneers had just three losing seasons during that time.
Simon Kenton graduates three seniors from the team. They are Webb, guard Alexis Baker and guard Teanna Griffin.
10th Region Quarterfinals at Nicholas County:
Mason County 33, Campbell County 26:
The Camels (11-19) led the Lady Royals (18-9), 17-15 at halftime. But Campbell County did not score for more than 11 minutes in the second half and had just four points in the fourth quarter seeing its season end.
The Lady Royals made two three-pointers to none for the Camels. Mason County made 12 of 22 free throws for 55 percent. Campbell County had 15 turnovers and 14 fouls to 12 turnovers and 15 fouls for Mason County. The Lady Royals also won the rebounding battle, 29-28.
Junior forward Keauna Cullum led Campbell County with 10 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Nariyah Harrison led Mason County with nine points and nine rebounds.
Campbell County graduates three seniors from this year’s team. They are forward Aliya Bauer, forward/guard Kylie Koeninger and guard Morgan Revell.
