The third and fourth seeds for the 37th District Tournament at Scott are set after the visiting Calvary Christian Cougars (9-15) downed the Scott Eagles, 6-1 in a battle for the first district seed win of the season.
The win ends a 10-game losing streak in the series for Calvary dating back to a 2-0 win on April 5, 2011. Scott (7-16) has lost six in a row.
Calvary Christian batted .261 (6 for 23) overall scoring three times in the fourth and seventh innings. Junior infielder Connor Rossiter had a two-run single in the top of the seventh to make the final score.
Sophomore Joshua Ruwe (3-3) pitched the first four innings to earn the win for the Cougars striking out four and walking one. Sophomore Caleb Ruwe finished the game striking out three and walking one.
Scott batted just .130 (3 for 23) overall. Senior catcher Leo Brown went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Eagles.
Junior Gunner Bleha (0-4) pitched into the fourth for Scott striking out three and walking five. Sophomore Jonas Foltz and junior Kyle Groneck pitched in relief. Foltz struck out four.
Calvary plays host to Villa Madonna (7-12) on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
St. Henry 13, Simon Kenton 0 (5 innings)
The game switched to Simon Kenton and the Crusaders (10-13) shut out the Pioneers (17-8) in a non-region game.
St. Henry batted an impressive .577 (15 for 26) overall and scored three unearned runs off four Pioneer errors. Senior first baseman Luke Keipert led the Crusaders going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and scored twice. Senior left fielder Sam Martin went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored twice.
The Crusaders saw three more players have multi-hit games. Senior center fielder Matt Resing went 2-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and scored twice. Junior third baseman John Lubert went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored and shortstop Nick Browning went 2- for-3 with a double, one RBI and scored once.
Junior Drew Flanagan (2-2) pitched a complete game limiting the Pioneers to one hit. He added a double at the plate.
St. Henry plays host to Boone County (7-13-1) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Simon Kenton travels to Covington Catholic (19-4) for a 5:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
