The LINK nky Team of the Week for September 14-20 presented by Ortho Cincy is the Villa Madonna volleyball team.
A bonus for the Villa Madonna volleyball team is that they are now eligible for Team of the Season (TOS) for the fall sports season. They join the Holy Cross football team, Walton-Verona football team and the Newport Central Catholic girls soccer team as the first four award winners for the season. The weekly nominations and winners for fall will run in to November. A vote will follow for TOS when the fall sports season is wrapped up to determine the winner. The winner for TOS will then be one of three nominees for Team of the Year voting in June. Each TOS winner will receive a $500 scholarship that will go to an athlete of their choice and they will then be up for Team of the Year (TOY).
For the team that is awarded TOY, online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year. The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.
VILLA MADONNA VOLLEYBALL
Villa snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 week last week to improve to 8-7 on the season.
They defeated Newport 2-0 (25-10, 25-6) and Walton-Verona 2-1 (25-14, 26-28, 26-24) in a tight matchup.
Leading the Vikings this season (as of Sept. 22) is Blakely Bennett in kills (106), Mary Chadwick and Bennett in blocks (6), Victoria Sebald (141) in assists, Anna Raziano in digs (150 and Sebald in aces (21).
