The LINK nky Team of the Week for Dec. 1-7 presented by Ortho Cincy is the Simon Kenton archery team.
The Pioneers ran away with the first poll of the Winter sports season, compiling 7,400 of the over 10,000 votes on the week. Their closest competition was the Cooper archery team, collecting nearly 3,000 votes.
A bonus for the Simon Kenton archery team is that they are now eligible for Team of the Season (TOS) for the winter. Bellevue’s football team won Team of the Season for the fall, Simon Kenton the first team of the week winner for the winter that will run up through February. Then we’ll turn to spring sports in the middle of March. Each TOS winner will receive a $500 scholarship that will go to an athlete of their choice and they will then be considered for Team of the Year (TOY). Voting will take place for that after each season.
For the team that is awarded TOY, online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year. The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.
SIMON KENTON ARCHERY
Simon Kenton won the Notre Dame Academy Panda Tournament Dec. 6-7, defeating the eight-team field by 29 points.
The Pioneers were led by Kilee Spegal with a score of 281 and hitting 17 tens. Grayson Runion added a 279 with 14 tens and Anna Beth McCarty with a 278 and 13 tens.
Simon Kenton scored 3,235 as a team, Scott in second with 3,206.
