Campbell County’s girls soccer team had 28 days to think about the 3-2 penalty kick loss Sept. 9 to Scott.
The Camels need ponder it no longer.
Ryan Weghorn’s goal in the 31st minute and Scott’s own goal in the 72nd were enough to send Campbell County to Thursday’s 37th District championship game with Monday’s 2-0 win on the Eagles’ pitch.
A familiar foe – defending district champion Bishop Brossart – awaits. Kickoff is 6 p.m. Thursday.
Both the Camels and Lady ‘Stangs advance to the 10th Region tournament at Brossart. Weghorn, however, wanted to savor beating the Eagles.

“I think avenging a loss meant more,” Weghorn said. “The (September) loss was pretty tough on the team during the season ‘cause we should’ve won that game; it should have never gone to PKs.”
Scott was a young squad – Josie Puthoff, Allyson Cole, Addy Wolf and Brooke Hoerlein were the only seniors.
“At the end of the day, it sucks losing, it always sucks losing,” Scott coach Allie Ast said. “We were young this season; we were kind of trying some things out. We had lots of injuries, illnesses, girls who couldn’t play … We never had a consistent starting lineup.”
Monday’s win also gave the Camels (11-7-3) a boost of late-season confidence – Campbell County finished 0-2-1 to end the regular season.
Meryem Gonulates earned the assist. Camels coach Dave Morris said Gonulates had effectively beaten Scott goalkeeper Savannah Black, but she chose to pass to Weghorn.

“The keeper was going to Meryem, and she was able to slot it over to Ryan, and it was a wide open net,” Morris said.
Ast said the play was a “bit of a miscommunication, kind of hesitation.”
“They’re kids, so it’s gonna happen,” she said. “At the end of the day, I trust what our goalie saw, and she just didn’t get to it.”
Morris thought Scott (9-11-0) concentrated on Jozie Holmes, the Camels’ leading scorer with 19 goals.
“I thought they were on Jozie a lot,” Morris said. “… (Scott) had an extra defender that dropped back in the middle. They had four across, and they always had that central defender. We like to play control, like to move the ball up the field. It gives us less space to move around in.”
Bishop Brossart 8, Calvary Christian 0

Senior Zoey Woosley led the Lady ‘Stangs with three goals and an assist, and Rachel Shewmaker and Larah Callahan each scored twice.
“I liked the creativity,” Brossart coach Andy Smith said. “There were some good overlapping runs.”
Brossart (14-4-4) is one of Northern Kentucky’s hottest teams heading into the postseason – the Lady ‘Stangs are 7-0-2 since a 1-0 loss Sept. 18 at Campbell County.
Woosley needed just 10 minutes to do her damage. She started with a goal in the 30th minute, converted Hadley Eviston’s corner kick in the 33rd and ended the match in the 39th with a shot from about eight yards away.
“I think it’s just focus out on the field,” Woosley said. “Getting wide and knowing where you’re supposed to be.”
Calvary Christian (4-10-2) goalkeeper Aubree Colston was busy before Shewmaker’s first goal in the 18th minute. A few seconds earlier, Colston deflected Shewmaker’s shot over the crossbar.
Callahan made it 2-0 in the 25th minute. Shewmaker scored two minutes later, and Callahan scored again in the 28th.
