The Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Association has released the 2024 Hall of Fame inductees, along with the recipients of the Tom Potter Award, Mel Webster Award, and Stan Steidel Award.
The annual Hall of Fame Dinner, when each honoree will be recognized, will be held on November 14 at 6 p.m., at Receptions in Erlanger. November’s dinner will be the 41st annual affair.
The Tom Potter award comes after Potter’s sacrifice in volunteering for the Newport Central Catholic athletic program and northern Kentucky in postseason all-star games. This year’s Tom Potter award winner will go to Charlie Chappie, a Holmes grad. Chappie recently retired after 50 years of being a high school official.
The Stan Steidel Award is named from Steidel’s administrative work as a former Dayton and Holmes athletic director and his work creating the All “A” Classic tournaments to help small schools compete for small school state titles. This year’s Stan Steidel Award goes to Mike Borchers, who recently retired from being the Superintendent of Ludlow Independent Schools. Borchers was the Superintendent at Ludlow for 13 years and spent 29 years in the Ludlow school system.
The Mel Webster Award is named after the late Webster, who passed away in 2022, would hep run the annual NKADA dinner. He was the athletic director at Bishop Brossart from 1997-2014. Webster was also the PA announcer for Walton-Verona in the 70’s and many 9th Region basketball tournaments. Webster did a lot, he was an umpire for 22 years and worked 20 region championships. He also played a pivotal role in Title IX in the state, among many other things. This year’s Mel Webster Award winner is Michelle Barth from Highlands. Barth was a softball standout for the Bluebirds, helping lead the team to three straight 9th Region titles. Barth now attends Thomas More University and is playing softball for the Saints.
