Cooper finishes in familiar spot at state golf tourney

For the second straight season, Cooper’s girls golf team claimed a third place finish at the KHSAA girls state golf tournament at Bowling Green Country Club.

The Jaguars finished 67-over-par, a marked improvement when they were 91-over-par last season. They just missed out on a runner-up finish, one stroke behind Marshall County. Sacred Heart took home the team title at 42-over-par.

Marshall County’s Trinity Beth was the individual champion for the second straight year with a 36-hole total of three-under-par and one stroke ahead of Sacred Heart’s Keira Yun, who entered the day with a five-stroke lead.

Cooper was led by Reagan Ramage finishing in a tie for fourth, a one spot improvement from last season when she was fifth. Ramage’s 36-hole score was four-over-par, firing a 76 on Wednesday after a 72 on Tuesday. She was just one of five players at even par or better when making the turn on Wednesday, but closed out with four bogeys on the back nine.

Eva Maley improved her score by five strokes on Wednesday after an opening round 81. Maley’s 76 helped her move up to a tie for 12th place and two strokes off the top 10. Maley went one-over on the front nine with two birdies, finishing with six pars and three bogeys on the back nine. Her 12th place finish is a 21 spot improvement from last year’s state tournament when she tied for 33rd.

Kendall Brissey was the third Cooper golfer to finish in the top 15 after a 36-hole score of 15-over-par. Brissey shot a 81 on Wednesday after a 78 on Tuesday.

Ava Finke (+35) and Sydney Koenig (+76) rounded out the Jags scoring. The third place finish was their fourth straight top five finish at the state tournament, finishing fifth in 2020 and ’21.

Individuals from Northern Kentucky that participated were led by Ryle’s Anika Okuda, improving three strokes from her round on Tuesday, firing an 81 on Wednesday for a 36-hole total of 21-over-par and good for a tie for 25th place.

Notre Dame’s Didi Jiradamkerng finished with a 36-hole total of 26-over-par and finishing in a tie for 43rd. Jiradamkerng shot a 86 on Wednesday after a 84 on Tuesday. Following the Pandas Jiradamkerng was Bishop Brossart’s Emma Laker, finishing at 29-over-par after a 90 on Wednesday. Laker’s first round was a 83 and finished tied for 50th in the tournament. Campbell County’s Allison Collins carded a 96 and 101 in her 36 holes and finished in 80th.

The boys KHSAA state tournament begins on Friday and runs through Saturday in the 36-hole tournament.
