Nominations are reader-submitted or recommended by our sports team. Our Team of the Week program honors all local sports at all levels, whether it’s youth or adult-oriented recreation, high school or college, professional or amateur.

This week’s nominated teams are listed below with some information provided by the submitter or LINK nky staff. The poll where you can vote follows at the end of the article.

BOONE COUNTY FOOTBALL

The Rebels opened the season in convincing fashion with a 31-0 victory over Holmes.

Jamar Hocker threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in the win. His rushing scores were from a yard out and 43 yards out. His touchdown throws were to Braxton Graves for 19 yards and another one to Graves for 24 yards.

The margin of victory was Boone County’s largest since Sept. 7, 2018 in a 49-0 victory over Holmes.

VILLA MADONNA VOLLEYBALL

The Vikings went 5-0 at the Ludlow Classic with victories over Grant County, Holmes, Calvary Christian, Boone County and Ludlow without dropping a set.

Maya Kondik was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Catherine Gifford and Rebecca Raziano also made the all-tournament team.

RYLE BOYS SOCCER

The defending 9th Region champs shook off an 0-2 start to the season to go 3-0 last week in wins over Beechwood (4-1), Bishop Brossart (3-0) and Madison Central (7-0).

Diego Honderkamp and Brice Denigan were the offensive standouts for the Raiders, Honderkamp with four goals and four assists in the three-game week, Denigan with four goals and two assists. Josh Line added two goals and an assist in the three games while Landon Barth collected 14 saves and allowed just one goal in the three contests.

A big matchup looms with Covington Catholic on Thursday in a rematch of the 2022 9th Region championship.

BISHOP BROSSART GIRLS SOCCER

A 3-0 week has the Mustangs off to a 5-1 start to the season. Bishop Brossart defeated Conner (3-2), Simon Kenton (3-1) and Madison Central (2-0) in their undefeated week.

Rachel Shewmaker collected at least a goal and an assist in each of the three games, totaling four goals and three assists. Abby Lloyd tallied two goals and two assists in the week while Zoey Woosley dished out two assists.

Madeline Broering racked up 23 saves in net and allowed just three goals in the three games.

Brossart will look to make it a fifth win in a row when they host Scott on Monday night in a 37th District battle. They also face George Rogers Clark on Wednesday and Dixie Heights on Saturday this week.
